Football legend Michael Owen launches SPEY Limited Edition Single Malt Whisky
Football legend and co-owner of Manor House Stables, Michael Owen unveiled the SPEY Limited Edition Single Malt Whisky, developed in partnership with Harvey’s of Edinburgh, at a glittering event at the Tower of London last night.
Michael launched two distinctive high quality single malt expressions – The Golden Choice and The Michael Owen Limited Edition which will be sold globally from this month. Both whiskies have been distilled using the finest Scottish ingredients and traditional, handcrafted methods at Harvey’s, Speyside Distillery, near Aviemore in the Cairngorm National Park.
After signing as SPEY Whisky’s Global Ambassador earlier this year, Michael has been personally involved in every stage of the whisky’s development from helping design the exquisite packaging to agreeing global marketing plans.
The Golden Choice expression takes its inspiration from Michael’s passion for horse racing and the rich heritage of The Gold Cup event at Royal Ascot. The exquisite bottle has been specially designed and finely crafted in honour of this event.
The Michael Owen Limited Edition expression is a special release of only 19,790 numbered bottles created to celebrate the year of his birth in 1979. Michael’s actual birthday is the 14th of December. This year Michael is looking forward to celebrating this at a special party in his honour, in Shanghai where this Limited Edition will be launched into the Asia market.

We have formed a close relationship with the whole SPEY family both here in the UK and in Asia; I am very excited about our future plans. I am also delighted to see that my love of horse racing is shared by everyone at Harvey’s, with their recent acquisition of a thoroughbred racehorse called SPEY Secret. Developing my own brand of whisky in conjunction with SPEY has been an exciting and fulfilling experience. I am proud to be finally able to unveil them today, for the rest of the world to enjoy”.
