The distillery is home to SPEY from Speyside Distillery – a luxury, high-quality single malt.
Although production at the distillery got under way in the very recent past, the history of the distillery and the dynasty behind SPEY spans more than two centuries. Our History
From 1990 SPEY was relaunched initially in Taiwan where it is recognised as one of the top 3 World Whisky Brands.
In 2012 it was launched into the UK and Europe with the purchase of Speyside Distillery.
We are delighted to consistently produce multi award winning Single Malts.
It was on Christmas Day in 1787 that John Harvey (acting in his capacity as Chairman of the company) personally selected the whisky to be used only by family. John Harvey called this exclusive and secret family whisky, SPEY "Chairman's Choice".
Current Chairman John McDonough (snr.) now oversees a limited Global allocation of Chairman’s choice, to enable friends and families to share this rare gift and wonderful heritage.
SPEY has a royal link that dates back almost 200 years when Lord Byron is understood to have gifted King George III with a barrel of SPEY whisky to celebrate his marriage to Annabella Milbanke in 1815. Historic records show this barrel was dispatched to the King’s family home at Kew Palace. The whisky is produced exclusively under licence from Historic Royal Palaces - the independent charity that looks after the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Banqueting House, Kensington Palace and Kew Palace.
"We have a long history with Lord Byron, as he gifted whisky, which is thought to have been SPEY, to King George III on the occasion of his marriage. Byron loved the Latin language, and so these expressions are a tribute to that passion." Speyside Distillery CEO John Harvey McDonough.
